Year 12 Independent Study check...

On Monday, I'll be asking you to sign up for a time to come and see me later on in the week for 5 - 10 mins each. It will be either during a free lesson, or lunchtime or at break. I'll be wanting to see your maths folder & evidence of your independent study.

I'll put a copy of my timetable in my room, with the times that you can sign up.

These are the topics you've looked at this first half term:

The test will be in the first week back and I'll be checking independent study work in your folder as well as looking at any mymaths records & mei logins.

You must make sure you can do your corrections - and you should be responsible for making sure you understand the questions.

Use mymaths or the MEI resources to help. You can ask in the maths surgery, or come and find one of us to have a look at your corrections.

Tomorrow...

Tuesday's lesson: we'll have a quick look at integrating 1/x and using partial fractions. You'll look at them in greater detail in core 3 and core 4 but we need them in order to continue with differential equations.

Thursday's lesson: I'm in the gcse exam so I'll set you some work to review the couple of topics we've done so far. I'll post some questions or links to mymaths after tomorrows lesson.

Fridays lesson: most of you are off to visit the university, so I'll not set any work, just continuing with the 'review' work from Thursday.

Revision...

A reminder that it's the fp1 revision session this evening. I sent the link before but email me if you need it.

Just sent links to numerical methods and core 2 revision sessions as well.

Can you get a netbook for p1 tomorrow? We'll have a look at some of the numerical methods spreadsheets on the MEI website - check that we understand the theory of the different methods as revision...

I'm planning on starting revision for FP1 next week -I'll give you your FP1 papers back tomorrow and it would be great if you can start looking at topics you think you need to revise - check through the list of topics that I gave most of you at parents' evening & let me know if there's anything you don't understand.

Double numerical methods!

Next week....

Numerical Methods on Monday & Tuesday - we need to try and get netbooks for this so we can use Excel or Google Apps - can you try and bring a netbook to each of the lessons? If necessary, we'll use the maths ones rather than the sixth form ones...

Thursday - FP1 - either we'll start the Proof by Induction or we'll carry on with Roots of Polynomials - hopefully we're all happy with the quadratic sum & product of roots - we now need to extend this to cubics, quartics (but not quintics!)

Friday - Numerical Methods again ... I'm hoping to get on with this quickly so we can start the coursework sooner rather than later.
