Easter Revision

You've got 6 papers to have a go at over Easter....

Try to (for each exam paper)

1) Attempt the exam paper in exam conditions (no books, access to mymaths etc)

2) Mark what you've done using the markscheme

3) Try and fill in any gaps - use mymaths, mei, textbooks, email or comment for advice

A reminder that my email address is sgilbert@thecooperschool.co.uk

I'd like to see your papers on Monday/Tuesday of the first week back after Easter. Hope you all have a good Easter break.

Updates on possible work to do....

Y12 - Statistics work - work through tree diagram questions (on page 30) and read through the opening paragraphs of the chapter to revise ideas.

As well as any work that your teachers set you - this is some advice about what to focus on today!

Y12 - you will have a mock exam based on Core 1 at the end of January, so you should use today to ensure that you understand the topics coming up in Core 1 - look in your textbook or on mymaths for help.

Y13 - revise, revise, revise for Core 3 on Wednesday. Any questions let us know & we can try to help.

Reminders about the assignment

Remember that all Y12s and Y13s have a maths assignment due in this week.

Y12s - you must complete the past paper questions (and gain at least 70%!), complete the differentiation questions, the mymaths work on sequences, and get at least 8 greens on core 1/core 2/ stats 1 topics of your choice.

Y13s - you must complete the core 4 questions on partial fractions & trigonometry. And remembering to revise for core 3 - remember you've got mymaths & mei resources to use.

Further Maths Y12s - revising for D1 - use mei & mymaths to help.

Further Maths Y13s - revising for S2 - use mei & mymaths to help - some of the topics like Poisson & Normal distributions are started on mymaths - you will need to continue to work through the past papers.

Any questions let me know....

Year 12 Independent Study check...

On Monday, I'll be asking you to sign up for a time to come and see me later on in the week for 5 - 10 mins each. It will be either during a free lesson, or lunchtime or at break. I'll be wanting to see your maths folder & evidence of your independent study.

I'll put a copy of my timetable in my room, with the times that you can sign up.

Hope you all have a good weekend,

Manipulating algebraic expressions & algebraic fractions
Rearranging formula
Solving simultaneous equations
Solving quadratics - completing the square, formula, graphically, factorising
Intersecting curves

Surds & rationalising the denominator
Indices
Stem-and-leaf diagrams
Averages & frequency distributions & grouped data
Standard deviation
Linear coding
Inequalities

The test will be in the first week back and I'll be checking independent study work in your folder as well as looking at any mymaths records & mei logins.

Year 12 Assignment 1

Hi all,

I'd like you to fill in the information from your first assignment on the form
Year 12 Assignment 1 feedback

You must make sure you can do your corrections - and you should be responsible for making sure you understand the questions.

Use mymaths or the MEI resources to help. You can ask in the maths surgery, or come and find one of us to have a look at your corrections.

Any questions, let me know.

Tomorrow...

Tuesday's lesson: we'll have a quick look at integrating 1/x and using partial fractions. You'll look at them in greater detail in core 3 and core 4 but we need them in order to continue with differential equations.

Thursday's lesson: I'm in the gcse exam so I'll set you some work to review the couple of topics we've done so far. I'll post some questions or links to mymaths after tomorrows lesson.

Fridays lesson: most of you are off to visit the university, so I'll not set any work, just continuing with the 'review' work from Thursday.

Revision...

A reminder that it's the fp1 revision session this evening. I sent the link before but email me if you need it.

Just sent links to numerical methods and core 2 revision sessions as well.

Wednesday, 18 April 2012

Tomorrow....

Can you get a netbook for p1 tomorrow? We'll have a look at some of the numerical methods spreadsheets on the MEI website - check that we understand the theory of the different methods as revision...

Sunday, 11 March 2012

this week...

Hi all,

FP1 tomorrow (Mon p5)
Then Numerical Methods for the remaining 3 lessons.

I'm planning on starting revision for FP1 next week -I'll give you your FP1 papers back tomorrow and it would be great if you can start looking at topics you think you need to revise - check through the list of topics that I gave most of you at parents' evening & let me know if there's anything you don't understand.

See you tomorrow,

Friday...

Double numerical methods!

Hoping to finish the chapter on solving equations.

Numerical methods

Reminder that you're reading through the notes and answering the questions on cobweb diagrams etc...

Thursday, 16 February 2012

Next week....

Numerical Methods on Monday & Tuesday - we need to try and get netbooks for this so we can use Excel or Google Apps - can you try and bring a netbook to each of the lessons? If necessary, we'll use the maths ones rather than the sixth form ones...

Thursday - FP1 - either we'll start the Proof by Induction or we'll carry on with Roots of Polynomials - hopefully we're all happy with the quadratic sum & product of roots - we now need to extend this to cubics, quartics (but not quintics!)

Friday - Numerical Methods again ... I'm hoping to get on with this quickly so we can start the coursework sooner rather than later.

Any questions about the assignments - let me know,

Design a poster...

Competition to win £100 in Amazon vouchers, about:

Favourite things about Further Maths .....

You have until March to complete it - I wonder whether this is something you could do during form time, or maybe using google apps?

Statistics Lecture

Hi all,
Can you leave a comment about the statistics lecture on Friday - it would be good to put a short paragraph together about the interesting points etc.

Errors in calculations

Lets try and use this:
https://docs.google.com/a/cooper.oxon.sch.uk/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Allu0kz0f5e6dEF3bVNtVm1XYXNYUmlabHY1VjBRMWc&authkey=CJa9zcMD

Choose a question to work on and try and work out how accurate you can be - you might like to annotate the spreadsheet with your reasoning...

Further Maths (D1) work

Hi all,

I've left you 5 online homeworks on mymaths to have a go at about Critical Paths and finding the Earliest Event times, Latest Event times, Critical activities, independent floats etc.

Also there's the questions on "Crashing a Network"!

Remember we said to get q1,q2,q3 completed for the next D1 lesson which will be after the mock exam on Friday.

Good luck!
